La Finca: Coffee & Community

Coffee: La Finca Cafe Oaxaca. A smooth drink, and full of fall spices. It’s perfect for this changing season.

Another cool fall morning, and not a cloud in the sky today. The sunrises have been stunners this week, with this morning’s being of the pale gradient variety; there are no clouds to paint today.

Cafe visit days carry with them an energy and are full of anticipation. I’m a first-thing-this-morning coffee drinker, and waiting to go to a coffee shop only builds on that. As a friend reminded me yesterday, coffee (and food) seems to taste better when made by someone else. I didn’t have to wait long as La Finca opens weekdays at 6:30am.

I can’t pass up their food menu when I visit. It’s an impressive list of breakfast or breakfast adjacent offerings. Today’s Breakfast Croissant with Bacon and house made chips hits the spot. The chipotle mayo is a perfect accent to make it pop.

La Finca isn’t just a coffee shop. It’s a family story poured into every cup. Founded by sisters Lizeth and Janeth in 2017 after a trip back to their roots in Oaxaca, the cafe carries forward their grandfather’s legacy. It’s coffee grown on the same land their family has tended for generations. They still import beans directly from his farm and another woman-owned one in Oaxaca, keeping those ties alive and direct trade. Every drink here, from Horchata Lattes to Tres Leches Coffee, feels like a blend of home, heritage, and Milwaukee community. Today I’m drinking their Cafe Oaxaca.

Community. We need more of that today, and it’s evident here with their sponsored fundraisers, hosted community events, and social advocacy. Community, tradition, and believing in something bigger than yourself.

Come for a cup of coffee. Stay and linger for a cafe invested in the neighborhood.
